Founded in 2013 “by accident”, unisex jewellery brand Heart of Bone has since become a worldwide sensation coveted by the likes of celebrated designers John Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld and Marc Jacobs. The small, family-run business lovingly handcrafts each piece from the artistic setting of their Melbourne-based studio.
Creator Emma Abrahams fused her experience as an artist, fashion buyer, stylist, creative director and antique restorer to establish the essence of Heart of Bone as pop-culture inspired with a distinct rock and roll spirit. Seeing the brand as more than just a jewellery label, Abrahams counters that Heart of Bone is an extension of her own creativity, drawing on her observations of the cultural zeitgeist to construct statement skull-icon rings that have launched the brand to a position of worldwide acclaim.
Working mainly in sterling silver and gold with both precious and semi-precious stones, Heart of Bone hand-carves and sculpts their bespoke designs in wax, before setting the intricate pieces in metal casts. The rings are then oxidised if required, before being hand-polished by the studio team. This time-consuming process of meticulously hand making such elaborate designs is testament to the brand’s love for their unique craft. When browsing the Heart Of Bone Collection, you’ll see chunky link bracelets and chains adorned with charms that verge on the macabre; snakes, crosses, roses, razors, swords and bone motifs meditate on the ghoulish and gothic.
