Sophie the Giraffe first went into production on May 25th, 1961 - Saint Sophie’s Day in France. Her creator, Monsieur Rampeau, was well-versed in the art of transforming Hevea latex into rubber toys, and dreamt up Sophie after being inspired by the natural size and shape of the giraffe. With four limbs and a lovely long neck, a giraffe would prove the perfect shape for a baby's small hands to hold.

Today, Sophie the Giraffe is still proudly produced in the same traditional way she was in the 60s, involving over 14 meticulous manual operations to ensure she meets the brand’s exacting standards. 100% Natural latex derived is from Hevea trees, and chosen specifically because it is soft, insulating, natural, waterproof, elastic and pleasant on the senses. The latex is then rotomoulded into Sophie’s distinctive shape, before being finished with fine detailing from nose to tail.
