The Social Outfit

The Social Outfit is a fashion label with a difference!

Founded in 2014, they are a registered charity operating a work-integration social enterprise. Their mission is to support refugee women kick-start their Australian careers via their manufacturing studio and retail store. They create ethical and sustainable clothing that is celebratory by design, thoroughly unique and showcases the skills, creativity and strengths of refugee and new migrant women. Each collection is strictly limited.

The Social Outfit is a firm believer in slow fashion, they participate in the circular economy by incorporating remnant fabrics (industry excess) into all of their collections, saving tonnes of fabrics from ending up in landfill each year. Located in the heart of the Inner West suburbs of Sydney, their training and employment programs focus on sewing and textile crafts, enabling participants to build on their existing skills whilst learning new ones. As of July 2023 the team have trained over 750 and employed 78 women from refugee and migrant backgrounds. For 85% of those who have worked with The Social Outfit, this was their first Australian job.
