What is Considered?
Considered is our way of identifying products that hold social, ethical or environmental credentials. Certified through third party standards, certifications, trademarks, or programs that address pressuring issues such as climate and greenhouse gases, soil health and land management, chemicals and toxicity, water use and pollution or animal welfare.
We're hoping to engage our customers on this journey and provide an informative experience for those who care as deeply about these topics as we do. In collaboration with brands and through our various platforms, Considered is our home for educational content, shining a light on the innovative and inspiring stories that are working towards addressing these issues.
We are committed to increasing our assortment of products that address these issues in some way, to provide a better assortment for our customers.
Considered enables you to learn about the certifications and standards we recognise, as well as browse and shop products that meet a certification or standard criteria within our seven Considered categories.
While we recognise that every product we sell has an impact, whether on the environment, people or animals, our ethos of Progress not Perfection remains and Considered is our pathway to reducing the impact of our assortment in line with our People & Planet Positive strategy. In collaboration with our brands, we review all products on THE ICONIC to determine if they are eligible for Considered. This could mean assessing the certified Organic Cotton composition in a product, or reviewing a PETA Vegan Certification.
The foundation of Considered is a set of credentials that are supported by third party standards, certifications, trademarks, or programs - these credentials are then grouped into Seven Categories. Any product included in Considered must meet the criteria of at least one of our social, ethical or environmental credentials.
To ensure we stay aligned with industry standards our benchmark is constantly evolving. We have used external tools such as Textile Exchange’s Material Benchmark - this means that many of the materials recognised have undergone LCA’s (Life Cycle Assessments).
As Considered applies solely to the product, the only packaging that is assessed and acknowledged in Considered is Reusable Packaging for Beauty Products in our Extended Use category. Where a product is designed with a refill option or including a refillable container we recognise the intention to eliminate single use plastic and waste.
THE ICONIC also recognises the critical role that our own packaging plays for our operations and our customers. With thousands of orders delivered each day, we want to ensure that every parcel arrives in great condition, while managing the environmental impact the packaging has.
Through our commitment to supporting the transition to a circular economy for packaging in Australia - we’ve been working hard to transition our reusable shipping satchels and boxes to packaging made from recycled materials. Read more about our latest progress in Our Packaging Program here.
Since launching Considered in 2019, hundreds of brands have continued to join us on the journey to evolve our assortment, a huge difference from where we were 5 years ago.
Despite making great progress, we are always striving to be better and ensure Considered is up to date with current industry baselines - and that means moving the needle! In addition to further developing our Considered criteria to include the latest certifications and standards, we have also revised our milestone targets to accurately reflect the latest developments in the industry by challenging our initial ambition, learn more about our Considered commitments here.
We are acutely aware of the urgent responsibility that our industry has to better manage its social and environmental impacts, and to look after its people. It’s a huge job, and we’re here for it.
Our 2030 People & Planet Positive Strategy has been collaboratively developed by our internal teams through cross-functional workshops, and aligns with our Group’s commitments. We hope that through our own movement we will inspire other businesses to recognise their part in driving collective, actionable change.
